Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president Hemant Soren on Sunday campaigned in Assam’s Dibrugarh district and sought support for the party’s candidates in Tingkhong and Sonari Assembly segments.

Addressing public meetings in support of party candidates Mahavir Baskey and Baldev Teli, Soren raised issues related to tea garden workers, wages, land rights and access to basic facilities.

He alleged that the tea garden community, despite its long contribution to Assam’s economy, continued to remain deprived of adequate wages, housing, education and other essential rights.

The JMM leader also accused the BJP of using the tribal community as a vote bank and called for greater political assertion by Adivasi groups in the state.

At another meeting in Sonari, Soren said development should translate into opportunities for youth, dignity for workers and rights for tribal and local communities.

He appealed to voters to support JMM candidates in the Assembly election. Party leaders and supporters were also present at the campaign events.
